Heinrich Klaasen, the South African wicketkeeper-batter, has withdrawn from the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) due to an undisclosed family emergency.

Klaasen, who was set to join the Saint Lucia Kings for this year’s CPL, has not played since July’s Major League Cricket (MLC) and also skipped the recent T20I series against the West Indies.

The Kings have announced New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert as Heinrich Klaasen’s replacement. Seifert has previously represented the Trinbago Knight Riders in the past and was part of their title-winning squad in 2020.

Klaasen last appeared in the CPL in 2022, playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, where he scored 118 runs across five innings. Since then, he has evolved into one of the most destructive hitters in T20 cricket.

The 2024 Caribbean Premier League will begin on August 30, with the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots facing off against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. A total of 34 matches will be played in the tournament, including the finals.
