Afghanistan Cricket Team suffered a huge blow ahead of their one-off Test against New Zealand, as star spinner Rashid Khan has been ruled out with a back injury sustained during a domestic tournament, according to ESPNCricinfo.
Rashid Khan has not been included in Afghanistan’s initial 20-member squad for the upcoming one-off Test against New Zealand. The two sides will meet in Greater Noida, India, on 9th September. It will be their first ever face off in Test history.
Rashid Khan picked up a back injury during the Shpageeza Cricket League (SCL) last month while playing for Speen Ghar Tigers (SGT). The leg-spinner participated in three matches on consecutive days, which exerted pressure on his back and led to the injury.
The Injury Battles of Rashid Khan: A Detailed Overview
Rashid Khan has a history of back injuries, having dealt with a similar issue before. After the ICC World Cup 2023, he suffered a back injury that required surgery, sidelining him for four months. He made his comeback in a T20I series against Ireland this March.
In addition to his back injury, Rashid Khan also suffered a hamstring injury a few weeks earlier during the Hundred T20 tournament. While playing for Trent Rockets, he experienced strain and missed the team’s final two games of the season.
