The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Moshin Naqvi is expected to take over the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) after Jay Shah, who has been elected as the chairperson of International Cricket Council (ICC) recently.
Notably, when Jay Shah takes on the role of ICC chairperson, he will need to step down from his positions at the ACC and BCCI, according to council policy.
This measure ensures there are no conflicts of interest or biassed decisions affecting the boards. Hence, Moshin Naqvi is seen as the leading candidate for the presidency of the continental council.
“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term. When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over,” a source in a report said as per NDTV Sports.
Jay Shah to Take Over Role of ICC Chairperson
Jay Shah has made significant contributions as the BCCI Secretary, such as starting the Women’s Premier League, equalizing pay between women and men cricketers, and boosting the salaries of domestic cricketers. He is expected to continue this good work even as ICC chairperson.
Jay Shah will officially take over the charge as ICC chairperson from December 1, 2024.
