Shreyas Iyer, who is looking to return to Test cricket with the Indian team, had a disappointing start in his first match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 on Thursday, September 5.
The Indian domestic cricket season began today with a refreshed Duleep Trophy format, featuring four teams.
Teams A and B, filled with current India Test cricketers and emerging talents, are clashing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Teams C and D, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer, are competing at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur.
Shreyas Iyer’s Poor Form Continues
Choosing to bowl first after winning the toss, Team C capitalized on what seemed to be a track aiding the pacers.
Team D faced early blows, with opener Atharva Taide falling for just 4 runs in the first over. Things went from bad to worse as skipper Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 9, caught out by a moving ball from Vijaykumar Vyshak in the 6th over.
Iyer could only survive 16 deliveries, scoring a single boundary, before being caught behind by wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel.
Following a stretch of poor form, Shreyas Iyer was dropped from the Indian Test team for the last three Tests of the India vs England series earlier this year. In the Buchi Babu Tournament, he could only manage scores of 2 and 22.
