The Kenya National Cricket Team has parted ways with its head coach, former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh. The cricketing authorities in Kenya have terminated his contract effective immediately.
Dodda Ganesh took on the role of head coach for Kenya on August 14, 2024. The former Indian cricketer had agreed to a one-year contract, but his tenure was cut short, ending just a month later.
InsideSport reports suggest that the contract Dodda Ganesh signed with Cricket Kenya has been considered invalid. Meanwhile, Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara will return as coaches for the 2027 Challenge League Group A round in September.
Dodda Ganesh was set to lead the team in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League this month, where they would face Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark, and Jersey, followed by the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers in October. However, he was dismissed even before his first assignment.
The report further mentions that the Karnataka veteran was removed due to a failure to adhere to the established guidelines during his appointment process. Pearlyne Omami, the Director of Women’s Cricket for Cricket Kenya, signed the letter that nullified his agreement with the team, stating:
“Under a resolution of the executive board of Cricket Kenya passed on Wednesday, 28th August 2024, and anchored under inter alia Articles 5.9 and 8.4.3 of the Cricket Kenya Constitution, we wish to notify you that the executive board has declined to ratify your appointment as head coach of the men’s cricket national team for want of following established procedures.”
