The Indian cricket team’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, will be back in action when India takes on Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, starting from September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Rohit Sharma is easily one of the most elegant yet powerful openers in world cricket across formats. With the kind of batting he has showcased in the last year or so, he doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
While Rohit already has numerous milestones to his name, every time he steps onto the field, he makes sure to add more feathers to his illustrious cap. This time will be no different, as he stands on the brink of achieving some significant milestones.
On that note, let’s take a look at the top five records he is looking to achieve in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh:
1. Approaching the 100-Sixes Mark
The 37-year-old is just 16 sixes away from completing 100 sixes in Test cricket. If he manages to achieve this in the upcoming series against Bangladesh, he will become the first-ever Indian batsman to reach this milestone in Test cricket history. Currently, he has 84 sixes to his name in 54 Test matches.
2. On the Verge of Breaking the Most Sixes Record for India
Rohit Sharma has a chance to break the legendary Virender Sehwag’s record for the most sixes in Test cricket by an Indian batsman. Sehwag ended his career with 90 sixes in Test cricket. If Rohit surpasses this mark, he will become the Indian batsman with the most sixes in the history of Test cricket.
3. Chasing 50 International Centuries
Rohit Sharma currently has 48 centuries across all formats in international cricket. He is just two centuries away from reaching the 50-century milestone. If he achieves this, he will become only the third Indian batsman to score more than 50 centuries, following Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who have 100 and 80 centuries, respectively.
4. Closing in on 1,000 Runs in 2024
Rohit Sharma is just 10 runs away from completing 1,000 runs in international cricket this year. He has accumulated 990 runs from 20 matches at an average of 45, with three centuries and six half-centuries. If he achieves this feat, he will become the first captain to score 1,000 runs in the year 2024.
