Rishabh Pant, India’s young wicket-keeper batsman, made a triumphant return to Test cricket by scoring a brilliant century in the second innings of the India vs Bangladesh Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Though he had a decent start in the first innings, he couldn’t fully build on it. However, in the second innings, the wicket-keeper batter bounced back in spectacular fashion, scoring a ‘record-breaking’ century. He was eventually dismissed after making 109 runs off 128 balls.
This century marks Rishabh Pant’s sixth in just 58 Test innings. On the other hand, former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also scored 6 centuries but took 144 innings to do so. With this feat, Pant has now matched Dhoni’s record for the most centuries by an Indian wicket-keeper in Test cricket.
Most Test Centuries by designated Wicket Keepers for India:
- Rishabh Pant – 6 centuries (58 innings)
- MS Dhoni – 6 centuries (144 innings)
- Wriddhiman Saha – 3 centuries (54 innings)
On Day 3 of the ongoing Test, India declared their innings at 287/4, giving Bangladesh a daunting target of 515 runs to chase. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant were the stars, both scoring impressive centuries with 119 not out and 109 runs, respectively.
