Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel, who recently became the Indian team’s bowling coach, has quickly made his mark. In his first assignment with India, the bowlers delivered an impressive performance, dismantling Bangladesh in just four days during the Chennai Test.

Jasprit Bumrah led the charge by picking up five wickets in the match. Though Ravichandran Ashwin went wicketless in the first innings, he came back strong, taking six wickets in the second innings to secure a comfortable victory for India. Other bowlers also contributed by grabbing key wickets, helping India dominate Bangladesh on a lively pitch.

Following this win, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali openly criticized Pakistan’s fast bowlers, particularly Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf, for their attitude toward Morne Morkel. Basit accused them of having an inflated sense of self-worth, especially when Morkel was coaching the Pakistan team last year.

Poor Mindset, According to Basit Ali

Morkel’s stint as Pakistan’s bowling coach did not yield great results. The Pakistan bowlers struggled under his guidance, failing to show the same spark that Morkel brought out in the Indian bowlers. According to Basit, this was largely due to the Pakistani pacers’ arrogance.

“The Pakistani bowlers think they are bigger than the game itself. They believed Morkel was nothing compared to them,” Basit stated on his YouTube channel.

He pointed out the contrast in performances between India and Pakistan against Bangladesh. While India dominated their opposition, Pakistan appeared to be on the back foot, even suffering a series whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh. Basit emphasized that the key difference lies in the mindset and approach of the two teams.

Praise for India’s Bowling Attack

Basit Ali also had high praise for India’s current bowling unit, comparing them to legendary Pakistan bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar. He noted the superior mentality of Indian players, urging Pakistan’s bowlers to learn from their rivals.

India will face Bangladesh again in the second Test of the series, scheduled to take place in Kanpur from September 27.
