In an exciting development, star players Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been named in Delhi’s probable squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season.

Kohli and Pant Among Delhi’s Probables

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) recently released a list of 84 probables for the season, which includes Kohli, Pant, and pacer Navdeep Saini, who impressed in the recent Duleep Trophy. However, veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who played for Delhi last season, was a surprising omission from the squad.

Kohli and Pant’s Ranji Trophy History

Kohli’s inclusion marks his first potential Ranji Trophy appearance since 2018. He last played in the tournament in the 2012-13 season, taking the field against Uttar Pradesh after a successful series against New Zealand.

Pant, on the other hand, made his Ranji debut in 2015 and gained fame in the 2016-17 season when he smashed a record 48-ball century against Jharkhand—the fastest in the tournament’s history.

Busy Schedule May Limit Kohli and Pant’s Participation

Despite their inclusion, Kohli and Pant’s participation in the Ranji Trophy remains uncertain due to India’s busy international schedule. The Men in Blue are currently playing against Bangladesh, followed by Test series against New Zealand and Australia.

Kohli and Pant are important players in India’s Test squad, making it unlikely they will be available for Ranji matches. Delhi’s first game of the season is against Chandigarh on October 11, just days before India’s Test series against New Zealand starts on October 16.
