Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been named the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. This marks a new chapter in Bravo’s illustrious cricket career, as he steps into a major coaching role in one of the IPL’s most popular franchises.

Bravo to Replace Gambhir at KKR

Dwayne Bravo‘s appointment follows the departure of Gautam Gambhir, who previously held the mentor position at KKR. Gambhir has taken up the role of head coach for the Indian national team, leaving an opening for Bravo to bring his expertise to the Kolkata-based franchise.

End of Bravo’s CSK Association

With this move, Bravo will officially part ways with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he served as the bowling coach during the 2024 IPL season. His decision to leave CSK comes shortly after he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, September 27. This announcement follows a groin injury that cut short his participation in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Bravo leaves behind an incredible legacy with CSK, both as a player and coach, having contributed significantly to their success over the years.

A Storied Career in T20 Cricket

Bravo, widely regarded as one of the finest T20 cricketers, holds the record for the highest number of wickets in T20 history, with 631 wickets in 582 matches. His ability to perform under pressure, especially with his slower balls and effective death-over bowling, made him a vital player in T20 leagues worldwide.

Throughout his career, Bravo was not only known for his on-field brilliance but also for his leadership. He guided Trinbago Knight Riders to consecutive CPL titles in 2017 and 2018 and led St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their first-ever CPL title in 2021.

Coaching Experience

Despite retiring from international cricket in 2021, Bravo remained active in the franchise circuit and took on coaching roles. Most recently, he served as the bowling coach for CSK and was also named as the bowling consultant for Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup squad in 2024.

Bravo’s wealth of experience in both playing and coaching makes him a valuable addition to KKR as they look forward to the 2025 season under his leadership. This new role is expected to provide KKR with fresh energy and insights from one of T20 cricket’s greatest minds.
