Nicholas Pooran made history during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, becoming the highest run-scorer in a calendar year in T20 cricket.
The West Indies hard-hitting batter surpassed Mohammad Rizwan’s record of 2,036 runs, set in 2021. The West Indies wicketkeeper-batter achieved this incredible feat during the clash between Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Saturday, September 28.
Nicholas Pooran’s Quickfire Knock
After Barbados Royals won the toss and decided to field first, Trinbago Knight Riders faced early blows. But Nicholas Pooran, coming in at No. 3, steadied the innings. He made a quick 27 off just 15 balls, hitting four boundaries and one six.
This short yet impactful innings pushed Pooran’s run tally to 2,059 for 2024, making him the top T20 run-scorer in a single year. The Knight Riders went on to win the match by 30 runs, limiting the Royals to 145/9.
In CPL 2024, Pooran has scored 312 runs from nine matches, averaging 39 and striking at 175.28. His incredible form has helped Trinbago Knight Riders secure a spot in the playoffs.
