Mayank Yadav, the fast bowling talent from Lucknow Super Giants, is set to receive his first call-up to the Indian national team for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. Known for his express pace, the 22-year-old right-arm pacer has generated significant buzz during the IPL 2024 season.

Current Training at the NCA

Currently, Mayank is participating in a special training camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He is joined by some big players like Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma. According to a report from the Times of India, Mayank has been in excellent form, bowling without any pain for over a month.

Strategic Selection for T20I Series

The Indian team management plans to rest many Test players during the T20I series against Bangladesh, which begins on October 6 in Gwalior. This strategy allows the selectors to explore new talent, including Mayank Yadav, who is yet to don the Indian jersey.

Mayank has not yet received clearance to play in the upcoming Ranji Trophy, starting on October 11.

However, he may be asked to travel with the Indian team for the three-Test series against New Zealand scheduled for next month. The selectors want to ensure that Mayank is not confined to the T20 format alone.

Both India’s head coach and bowling coach, Morne Morkel, hold Mayank in high regard based on their experiences with him at Lucknow Super Giants.

Changes in the Bowling Line-Up

With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj likely to be rested for the T20I series, Arshdeep Singh will spearhead India’s bowling attack. Other fast bowlers, including Avesh Khan, Harshit Rana, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mukesh Kumar, are also in contention for selection.
