The Indian Premier League (IPL) has officially revealed the retention rules for the 2025 season. As part of these rules, teams are required to submit their final list of retained players by October 31st, 2024, 5 PM IST.

Maximum Six Retentions Allowed

Each of the 10 IPL franchises can retain a maximum of six players, consisting of five capped and one uncapped player. Franchises have the freedom to decide how many players they wish to keep within this limit.

Deadline for Retentions: October 31st

Franchises must submit their list of retained players by October 31, 2024, no later than 5:00 PM IST. Any failure to meet this deadline will mean they have to rely solely on the auction to build their team for IPL 2025.

Auction to Be Held in November

After teams have submitted their retention lists, the IPL auction is expected to take place in November 2024, likely in the third or fourth week of the month. According to reports, the auction might be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), although the exact date and venue are yet to be officially confirmed.

With the retention deadline fast approaching, franchises have limited time to finalize their decisions on key players who could define their success in the next IPL season.
