Virat Kohli continues to make history. On Day 4 of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur, he became the fastest player to reach 27,000 international runs. 

Though Kohli narrowly missed his half-century, falling just three runs short, he achieved something remarkable by breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. Kohli reached the milestone in 594 innings, surpassing Tendulkar, who took 623 innings.

Virat Kohli Breaks Tendulkar’s Record

Kohli looked in fine form, playing with aggressive intent throughout the post-tea session. He scored 47 from 35 balls, including four boundaries and a six, before getting dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan. 

Despite missing out on a fifty, Kohli’s achievement of 27,000 runs in international cricket stood out. He now joins an elite list of players, becoming only the fourth to reach this landmark, with Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Ricky Ponting preceding him.

Consistency Across Formats

Kohli’s numbers across all formats speak volumes of his consistency and excellence. He has accumulated over 8,870 runs in Test cricket, 13,906 runs in 295 ODIs, and 4,188 runs in T20Is before retiring from the shortest format earlier this year after helping India win the T20 World Cup. His overall tally of 27,012 runs is the fastest ever recorded in the history of the game.

India’s Aggressive Approach

With rain affecting more than two days of play, India decided to go on the offensive. After bowling out Bangladesh for 233, India’s batters wasted no time in piling on runs. 
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma started aggressively, smashing boundaries with ease.

Rohit’s quick 23 from 11 balls, featuring three sixes, set the tone for India’s innings. KL Rahul followed with a well-made 68, helping India declare at 285 for 9, securing a 52-run lead.
