Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique delivered a stellar performance on the first day of the Pakistan vs England Test match in Multan, scoring his fifth Test century in style. 

Shafique reached the milestone with a six off England spinner Jack Leach. His century came right after Pakistan skipper Shan Masood also reached his fifth Test ton, forming a 254-run partnership that put Pakistan in a commanding position.

Abdullah Shafique’s Resurgence Under Pressure

Coming into the match, Shafique faced some doubts about his place in the squad after a series of low scores. However, he responded in the best possible way, delivering a composed yet aggressive innings when it was needed the most. 

Despite tricky conditions in the opening overs, particularly after the early dismissal of Saim Ayub, Shafique remained unfazed. He showed excellent technique against England’s fast bowlers and balanced caution with aggression. 

His innings included 10 fours and two sixes, demonstrating his confidence. His first six brought up his fifty, while his second six secured his century, both highlighting his ability to handle spinners with authority.

Shafique’s performance mirrors his last century, where he went on to convert it into a double ton. With a flat pitch in Multan, he will be eyeing another big score. At the other end, Shan Masood played a more aggressive role, providing solid support as the duo built a strong platform for Pakistan to capitalize on in the coming days.
