Shan Masood, the Pakistan cricket team captain, has finally ended his lengthy wait for a century in Test cricket. Leading the team in his sixth Test as captain, Masood played a brilliant knock during the first Test against England in Multan. His hundred marked his first as captain in the longest format of the game.
After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to bat first but faced an early blow when opener Saim Ayub was dismissed for just 8 runs. Coming in at number three, Masood immediately took charge, opting for an aggressive batting strategy that caught England off guard.
With the pitch offering favourable batting conditions, the Pakistan captain didn’t shy away from playing his shots, taking full advantage of the situation.
Second-Fastest Century by a Pakistan Captain
Shan Masood’s century was not just any hundred – it was the second-fastest century ever scored by a Pakistan captain in Test cricket. The only captain to have scored a faster century for Pakistan was Misbah-ul-Haq, who reached the mark in just 56 balls against Australia in Abu Dhabi back in 2014.
This century was Masood’s fifth in Test cricket and his first since August 2020, when he also scored a ton against England. The journey to this milestone has been far from easy for the left-hander, whose Test career has seen many ups and downs, especially when it comes to scoring centuries.
By ending the second-longest century drought of his career, Shan Masood has not only silenced his critics but also given his team a much-needed boost in this important series against England.
