Pakistan’s Sajid Khan and Noman Ali created history by becoming the 7th bowling pair to take all 20 wickets in a Test match, breaking a 52-year record. Their combined effort led Pakistan to a 152-run victory over England in the second Test on October 18 in Multan, ending the hosts’ winless streak at home.

Pakistan’s Spin Gamble Pays Off

Opting for a spin-heavy strategy, Pakistan made several changes to their lineup, fielding Aamer Jamal as the only pacer. Sajid Khan stole the show in the first innings, dismantling England’s batting with 7 wickets, while Noman Ali cleaned up the remaining 3.

However, the second innings belonged to Noman. The left-arm spinner picked up 8 for 46, producing the best bowling figures by a Pakistan left-arm spinner in Test cricket. Sajid’s contribution was equally crucial, as he gave Pakistan an early boost by dismissing Ollie Pope in the second over of Day 4.

Noman Ali-Sajid Khan Breaks 52-Year-Old Record

Sajid and Noman’s performance earned them a place in elite company. They are only the seventh pair in Test history to claim all 20 wickets in a match. The last time this rare feat occurred was in 1972, when Australia’s Bob Massie (16) and Denis Lillee (4) dominated England at Lord’s. In Multan, Noman finished with match figures of 11 for 147, while Sajid took 9 wickets.

Below is a list of the bowlers who have achieved this exceptional feat:

  • M Noble (13) & H Trumble (7) vs ENG, Melbourne, 1902
  • C Blythe (11) & G Hurst (9) vs AUS, Birmingham, 1909
  • B Vogler (12) & A Faulkner (8) vs ENG, Johannesburg, 1910
  • J Laker (19) & T Lock (1) vs AUS, Manchester, 1956
  • F Mahmood (13) & Khan Mohammad (7) vs AUS, Karachi, 1956
  • B Massie (16) & Denis Lillee (4) vs ENG, Lord’s, 1972
  • Sajid Khan (9) & Noman Ali (11) vs ENG, Multan, 2024

The duo’s brilliant performance not only leveled the series 1-1 but also gave Pakistan a morale-boosting win after a difficult period at home. The three-match Test series is currently levelled at 1-1 with one match yet to play.
