Former India cricketer Saba Karim revealed a heartwarming conversation he had with Sarfaraz Khan during India’s Test series against England earlier this year. Karim shared how the Mumbai batter had expressed his determination to score a century after narrowly missing out in the Dharamsala Test.

Sarfaraz Khan made his Test debut in the third Test of the England series, held in Rajkot. However, it was during the final Test in Dharamsala that he really made an impact, scoring a well-compiled 56.

Saba Karim, recalling his interaction with Sarfaraz after the match, said:

“He told me, ‘Next time, if I get an opportunity, I will definitely get a hundred.’ His belief in himself has been one of his biggest strengths over the years.”

Saba highlighted how the current generation of cricketers, including Sarfaraz, thrives on self-belief.

“Young players today are so confident in their abilities. This helps them settle quickly and perform well, just like we saw today with Sarfaraz,” he told Jio Cinema.

Maiden Test Hundred in Bengaluru

Sarfaraz delivered on his promise during the first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. On Day 4, he reached his maiden international hundred, underlining his talent and mental strength. Sarfaraz had started India’s recovery on Day 3, forming a crucial 136-run partnership with Virat Kohli to stabilize the innings. Kohli, who was dismissed for 70 just before stumps, passed the baton to Rishabh Pant, who joined Sarfaraz on Day 4.

The duo continued to build momentum, adding another century partnership before rain interrupted play. Sarfaraz’s hundred was not just a personal milestone but also a vital knock that kept India in the driver’s seat.

A Family Effort Behind Sarfaraz’s Rise

Saba Karim took a moment to congratulate Sarfaraz’s family, especially his father Naushad Khan, for their dedication to his development.

“Kudos to him and his family, who have worked tirelessly on his batting. The long hours they’ve spent improving his game were visible today,” Karim remarked.

Sarfaraz’s journey from making his debut to scoring a Test hundred highlights the importance of belief, hard work, and support from family—values that have shaped his rise on the international stage.
