The Pakistan men’s cricket selectors are planning to make some big changes ahead of the upcoming white-ball series against Zimbabwe. Senior players, including Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, are expected to be rested for the tour, offering younger talent a chance to shine.

Pakistan recently ended their Test match drought with a victory over England in the second Test of the ongoing home series. Shan Masood led the Men in Green to this much-needed win after a string of disappointing results in the T20 World Cup and Test cricket. Notably, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah were rested during the second and third Tests, which allowed other players to step up.

The new selection committee, appointed after Pakistan’s defeat in the first Test against England, made bold decisions by dropping star players like Babar, Naseem, and Sarfaraz Ahmed. This move paid off as Pakistan bounced back to level the series. With the final Test scheduled in Rawalpindi from October 24 to 28, the team aims to finish on a high.

A New Talent Pool in the Making

As reported by Cricket Pakistan, the selection committee is likely to rest four to five senior players during the Zimbabwe series, focusing on giving consistent domestic performers exposure in international conditions.

With changes in leadership, management, and selection policies, Pakistan aims to bounce back stronger and avoid the inconsistencies that have troubled them in recent tournaments. The upcoming Zimbabwe series will serve as a testing ground for the next generation of cricketers, preparing them for future challenges.
