The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will feature a mega auction, bringing major changes to the squads of all 10 franchises. Fans can expect some well-known players switching sides as franchises look to restructure their lineups.
According to the IPL’s announcement, each franchise can retain up to six players from their current squad. This can be done either through direct retention or by utilizing the Right to Match (RTM) card, giving teams the option to release all players and secure them back at the mega auction using RTM.
Teams can retain up to five capped players, whether Indian or overseas, along with a maximum of two uncapped players. The rules for uncapped players come with a new twist as an old regulation returns after three years, which allows a team to consider retaining a player, who retired around five years ago as an uncapped player.
One team that fans are particularly curious about is the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the players they are likely to retain and those they might let go.
