The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is just around the corner, with all teams getting a chance to rebuild their squads from scratch.

The IPL announced that each franchise can retain a maximum of six players from their current squad. Teams can achieve this through direct retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) card, allowing them to release players and reacquire them during the mega option using RTM.

Teams are allowed to retain up to five capped players, either Indian or overseas, and a maximum of two uncapped players. A returning rule, reintroduced after three years, adds a twist by permitting teams to retain players who retired around five years ago, as uncapped players.

Among the franchises generating the most buzz is Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions. All eyes are on them to see which players they retain and release ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Let’s take a closer look.
