As the IPL 2025 retention deadline draws near, MS Dhoni has officially confirmed his participation in the upcoming season. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend expressed his intention to continue playing for a few more years, stating that he wishes to enjoy the remaining days of his cricketing career before calling it quits.
Chennai Super Kings are reportedly set to retain their superstar for the 2025 season rather than letting him go into the pool for the IPL Mega Auction. Sources suggest that Dhoni will likely be retained as an uncapped player, given his last appearance for India was five years ago.
MS Dhoni’s ₹4 Crore Deal on the Cards
As per IPL’s updated rules, players who have not represented India recently (for five years) can be retained at a base price reserved for uncapped players. This allows CSK to secure Dhoni’s services for ₹4 crore. The IPL governing council recently reintroduced these retention policies, which had been discontinued in 2021.
While there was speculation about CSK’s strategy for the upcoming season, former spinner Harbhajan Singh believes the franchise should prioritize Dhoni as their first pick.
However, retaining him under the uncapped category offers CSK a more practical solution, preserving their budget for the mega option. During a promotional event for the software brand Rigi, Dhoni hinted at his plans, saying:
“I just want to enjoy the few years of cricket I have left.”
His confirmation of participating in IPL 2025 was further backed by reports from Cricbuzz.
