Newly appointed Pakistan white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan has shared his leadership philosophy, stating that he intends to serve his teammates rather than lead with authority.
Rizwan, who officially took over on Sunday, October 27, emphasized unity within the team following Babar Azam’s resignation from the captaincy after Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the T20 World Cup.
During his first press conference as captain, Rizwan made it clear that every player in the squad will have a leadership role.
“If I start considering myself a king as captain, everything will fall apart,” Rizwan said. “As a leader, I am here to serve the 15 men of the team. This is how it should be. In our team, everyone will have a chance to lead in their own way, and together we will make decisions on and off the field.”
He added that the team would fight hard in every game, promising that Pakistan’s spirit would never falter:
“Inshallah, we will fight, fight, and fight. This is the message we keep receiving from our supporters, and we will try our best to show the nation that there is no lack of fight in us.”
The wicketkeeper-batter also emphasized that the team has placed results in Allah’s hands.
“Whatever the outcome, we will accept it. But in terms of fighting spirit, that is something we guarantee—there will be no shortage.”
Addressing Rumours of Groupism
Rizwan also tackled rumors of groupism within the squad, asserting that the Pakistan team functions as one unit. He made it clear that everyone on the team will be treated as an equal leader, rejecting the idea of cliques or divisions.
“For me, the only group I am part of is the Pakistan team’s group,” Rizwan said. “Now that I’m captain, the most important thing is that all fifteen players act as captains in their own way. While I will handle presentations and conferences, each player will lead on the field in their own style.”

Rizwan’s leadership will be tested immediately, with Pakistan set to face Australia in a series of ODIs Down Under. The new captain will look to instill his collaborative approach as the team gears up for this challenging series.
