The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain of Pakistan’s white-ball teams, with Salman Ali Agha stepping in as vice-captain. The announcement came on Sunday, marking a shift in leadership as Babar Azam decided to step down from captaincy.

Mohammad Rizwan’s Journey to Leadership

Rizwan, who made his ODI debut in 2015 against Bangladesh, has established himself as a key figure in Pakistan’s white-ball cricket. With over 5000 runs at the international level and a batting average above 40 across both formats, the wicketkeeper-batter has been a consistent performer for the national side.

In a statement expressing his excitement about the new role, Rizwan shared his thoughts:

“I’m deeply honoured to be appointed as Pakistan’s white-ball captain. Representing Pakistan on the global stage is the greatest privilege, and now leading such a talented group of players is a tremendous honour.”

He further added, “I’m committed to giving my absolute best in this role and look forward to working closely with the selectors, coaches, and teammates. Together, we aim to meet and exceed the expectations of our fans and supporters.”

Babar Azam Steps Back to Focus on Batting

Babar Azam’s decision to relinquish the captaincy comes as he looks to manage his workload and concentrate more on his batting. Speaking about the change, Babar expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead:

“It’s been an honour to lead this team, but it’s time for me to step down and focus on my playing role,” Babar wrote on social media.

“Captaincy has been rewarding, but it’s added a significant workload. I want to prioritize my performance, enjoy my batting, and spend quality time with my family, which brings me joy.”

Babar hopes that stepping back will allow him to gain clarity and channel more energy into his game and personal growth.

With Rizwan at the helm and Salman Ali Agha as his deputy, Pakistan enters a new chapter, aiming for success in upcoming international competitions.
