Pakistan’s Test captain, Shan Masood, has backed former skipper Babar Azam, expressing confidence in his return to form as Pakistan prepares for their crucial tour of Australia. According to Masood, Babar’s temporary break from cricket may be exactly what he needs to rejuvenate his game and find his rhythm.
In a recent conversation on BBC’s Stumped radio programme, Masood highlighted Babar’s skills and his impact on Pakistan’s cricket.
“I think he’s one of the best batsmen in the world,” Masood remarked. “I’m nobody to say he doesn’t have a future. He has every quality to be one of the greatest in Test cricket. He’s consistently there in the rankings, and sometimes, people just need a break.”
Babar, known for his elegance and consistency, last scored a century in an ODI against New Zealand in May 2023. His upcoming series against Australia holds high stakes and may shape his future in the national setup. Masood believes this break from the game will benefit Babar, allowing him to return refreshed.
“This break will help him greatly, and he’ll come back stronger. There’s no harm in stepping back at times for a breather. Babar has played a lot, gone through a lot, and he’ll always be a core player for Pakistan,” Masood added.
With support from Masood and his own determination, all eyes will be on Babar as he looks to prove himself once again on the challenging Australian pitches.
