The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally written to the International Cricket Council (ICC), reaffirming its stance to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, regardless of India’s participation.
This move comes as the PCB remains firm on bringing the prestigious tournament entirely to Pakistan, despite India’s reluctance to play matches in the country.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has previously expressed hesitation to travel to Pakistan, leading to suggestions of a possible hybrid model where India’s matches could be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
However, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has taken a strong stand, stating that Pakistan intends to host the tournament fully within its borders.
PCB’s Determination to Host Entire Event in Pakistan
In its communication to the ICC, the PCB made it clear that they are prepared to host the Champions Trophy even if India decides not to participate.
The PCB has also conveyed that they have consistently shown flexibility in the past by adopting hybrid models for events like the Asia Cup 2023, where India’s matches were held in Sri Lanka.
However, PCB leadership now believes that Pakistan has done enough to accommodate other nations and is ready to host the event with or without India.
By reinforcing this stance, the PCB hopes to secure ICC’s backing and bring clarity on the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy 2025.
As the ICC deliberates on PCB’s request, cricket fans around the world await the final decision that will impact the tournament’s location and structure.
