Ponting, Langer to Miss Commentary for Auction Preparations
Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Justin Langer, head coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), are reportedly planning to attend the IPL auction. This means they would need to temporarily step away from their commentary roles during the opening Test match.
According to reports from the Australian newspaper The Age, Channel Seven could miss having both Ponting and Langer on their commentary team for parts of the Perth Test.
Daniel Vettori’s Likely to Miss Perth Test
In addition to Ponting and Langer, Australia’s assistant coach Daniel Vettori, who also serves as the head coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is expected to travel to Jeddah for the auction.
His absence might impact Australia’s backroom support during the initial days of the Test series. In a similar situation in 2023, Vettori fulfilled his coaching duties for Australia before heading for the IPL auction.
However, this time, with the auction dates overlapping directly with the start of the Test match, he may need to make a choice sooner.
