In a big blow for Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has instructed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to cancel its planned Champions Trophy trophy tour to regions in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The announcement comes just a day after PCB revealed that the trophy would visit scenic cities like Skardu, Hunza, Murree, and Muzaffarabad from November 16 to 24.
BCCI’s Objection Leads to Cancellation
On Thursday, November 14, the PCB had proudly announced that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 trophy would begin its tour in Islamabad before traveling to these PoK regions. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) raised objections to the PCB’s plan. As a result, the ICC intervened and asked the Pakistan board to cancel the scheduled visit to the PoK cities.
The tour is still set to begin in Islamabad on November 16. But now, the PCB will have to revise its plans for the remaining leg of the tour. Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, the cities hosting the actual Champions Trophy matches, were also excluded from the trophy tour due to the ongoing smog issues in those areas.
Ongoing Issues Affecting Champions Trophy
This cancellation is part of a broader series of issues surrounding the Champions Trophy 2025. There has been no official word from the ICC regarding the status of India’s participation, especially after reports of India playing its matches in either the UAE or Sri Lanka. The delay in confirming the tournament’s schedule, originally set for November 11, has further added to the uncertainty.
As things stand, the PCB will now have to come up with new locations for the trophy tour. This latest development shows how political and environmental concerns are affecting the build-up to the Champions Trophy in 2025.
