Mohammed Shami has taken strong exception to Sanjay Manjrekar’s comments on his potential price in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Manjrekar, during a discussion on Star Sports, predicted that Shami might not fetch more than INR 6.25 crore, the amount Gujarat Titans paid for him in the IPL 2022 auction.

The former cricketer cited Shami’s injury history as a reason, saying teams could hesitate to bid heavily due to the risk of losing him mid-season.

Shami, known for his fiery on-field performances, did not hold back off the field either. He mocked Manjrekar through an Instagram story, sarcastically suggesting he save some wisdom for his own future.

“Baba Ki Jay Hooooo. Thoda sa gyan apne futue ke liye bhi bacha lo kaam ayeaga Sanjy G. Kisi ko futue janna ho to sir se mile (Save a little wisdom for your own future. If anyone wants to know their future, do contact ‘baba ji’),” Shami wrote in an Instagram story, mocking Manjrekar.

Mohammed Shami’s Road to Recovery

Shami, who was India’s highest wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup, has been battling injuries since the tournament. After undergoing a lengthy rehabilitation program, he recently returned to competitive cricket, representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. In the game against Madhya Pradesh, he showcased his skills with a seven-wicket haul, helping Bengal secure their first win of the season.

Despite this strong comeback, Shami’s inclusion in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy remains uncertain. Reports suggest the BCCI selectors want to ensure his fitness by having him play more matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bengal’s head coach, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, confirmed Shami’s likely availability for the domestic tournament if he isn’t picked for the Australia series.

Shami has set his base price at INR 2 crore for the IPL 2025 auction. His performance in recent matches and his experience make him a valuable player, but concerns over his fitness could influence his bidding war.
