Harshit Rana marked his Test debut with a memorable moment during the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The young Delhi pacer bowled Australia’s Travis Head for 11, securing his maiden Test wicket on Friday.
Head had looked confident in the previous over, hitting Rana for two boundaries. However, the 22-year-old bounced back strongly to dismiss the Australian batter, showcasing his potential on the big stage.

Harshit Rana’s Journey to Test Cricket
Harshit Rana’s Test debut came alongside Nitish Kumar Reddy, another promising talent. Rana, who played a vital role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2024 title-winning campaign, has also been a consistent performer in domestic cricket. He has featured in 10 First-Class matches, claiming 43 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls and a 10-wicket match haul.
Rana impressed in the Duleep Trophy earlier this year, taking eight wickets across two matches in Anantapur and contributing valuable lower-order runs. His performance earned him a spot in the Indian Test squad, and he did not disappoint on debut.
In India’s first innings, Harshit contributed seven runs off five balls before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood. With the ball, he made an immediate impact, adding to India’s bowling strength.
India Struggles in First Innings
India’s batting faltered in Perth as they were bowled out for just 150 runs in the first over of the second session. Jasprit Bumrah, leading the team as stand-in captain, has already taken three wickets in Australia’s innings, keeping India in the contest.
Harshit Rana’s early success will boost his confidence as India looks to fight back in the series. The young pacer’s debut wicket is a promising sign for Indian cricket’s future.
