England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler became one of the top highlights of the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Gujarat Titans (GT) secured the services of the experienced wicketkeeper-batter for ₹15.75 crore after an intense bidding war involving Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants.
A Fierce Bidding Contest
Rajasthan Royals initially showed interest in reacquiring Buttler, who had been a vital part of their squad in IPL 2024. However, Gujarat Titans were determined and outbid their competitors, sealing the deal despite a late challenge from Lucknow Super Giants. The Titans were keen to add Jos Buttler’s explosive batting and leadership skills to their squad.
A Star Performer with Proven Records
Buttler has been a consistent performer in T20 cricket since his debut in 2011. With 3,389 runs in 129 T20Is, including a highest score of 101 not out, he has solidified his place as one of the best batters in the format. In the IPL, Buttler’s record is equally impressive, having scored 3,582 runs in 107 matches at a staggering strike rate of 147.53.
In IPL 2024, Buttler represented Rajasthan Royals, scoring 438 runs in 11 matches with an average of 39.89, including two centuries. Despite his contributions, the Royals surprisingly chose not to retain him ahead of the mega auction, making him a prized target for several franchises.
With Buttler’s arrival, Gujarat Titans have not only added a seasoned batter but also a potential leader to their squad. Fans eagerly await his impact in the upcoming IPL season.
