Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has revealed that both KL Rahul and Axar Patel will take on leadership roles for the team in the upcoming IPL season. While two captains cannot officially lead a team simultaneously, Jindal’s statement hints at a shared leadership dynamic where both players contribute to guiding the side.
In an official press release, Jindal explained that Rahul and Patel will play key roles in mentoring the team’s younger players. He also expressed excitement about the team’s acquisitions on Day 1 of the IPL mega auction, which included KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, and Harry Brook. The franchise also used their Right to Match (RTM) card to bring back Jake Fraser-McGurk for ₹9 crore.
Building a Stable Top Order
Discussing KL Rahul’s inclusion, Jindal highlighted his consistent IPL performances, with over 400 runs in each season. He believes Rahul’s experience and batting style will suit the Kotla wicket perfectly.
“We were looking for stability in the top order, and KL Rahul was the ideal pick. His record speaks for itself, and we’re thrilled to have him in the squad,” Jindal said.
He also added, “Both KL and Axar will lead the young batting lineup. Their experience will be crucial in guiding the team this season.”
Strong Additions to the Squad
Apart from KL Rahul, the Capitals secured England’s Harry Brook for ₹6.25 crore. They also bolstered their bowling attack by signing T Natarajan for ₹10.75 crore and experienced pacer Mohit Sharma for ₹2.20 crore. Domestic talents Sameer Rizvi (₹95 lakh) and Ashutosh Sharma (₹3.80 crore) were also added to the roster.
Jindal confirmed that the team will target more bowlers on Day 2 of the auction, with Indian players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mukesh Kumar among the key names still available in the pool.
Delhi Capitals, who are yet to win an IPL title, are hoping their fresh signings and shared leadership approach will bring them closer to lifting the trophy in the upcoming season.
