Former England captain Eoin Morgan has expressed his thoughts on Delhi Capitals’ smart approach during the IPL 2025 auction. He lauded the franchise for their decision to bring in KL Rahul for ₹14 crore instead of using their Right to Match (RTM) card on Rishabh Pant.

Morgan, who once led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2021 final, believes that Delhi made a wise move by securing Rahul, a player of immense value. Meanwhile, Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history after Lucknow Super Giants purchased him for a record-breaking ₹27 crore.

Morgan’s Take on KL Rahul’s Value

Morgan said that KL Rahul’s abilities make him worth much more than ₹14 crore. He suggested that the star batter could have easily fetched between ₹20 and ₹22 crore, given his consistency and leadership qualities.

“You look at what Delhi Capitals did—they avoided the heat of the moment and made a solid decision. ₹14 crore for KL Rahul is a steal. He isn’t just a ₹14 crore player; his value goes far beyond that,” Morgan said during the auction broadcast.

The former England skipper also hinted that the Capitals should consider making Rahul their captain for the 2025 IPL season.

Delhi Capitals, still in search of their first IPL title, will hope that their investment in KL Rahul can bring them closer to lifting the trophy. The team’s only appearance in the final was back in 2020, and they aim to change that under Rahul’s guidance.
