West Indies cricketer Sherfane Rutherford created history by becoming the first player to score a century in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Representing Northern Warriors, Rutherford achieved this milestone during the 12th match of the 2024 season against UP Nawabs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Sunday, November 24.

The match started with UP Nawabs opting to bowl first. Northern Warriors had a rough start, losing their top three batters early. Brandon King (16), captain Colin Munro (5), and Johnson Charles (1) departed cheaply, leaving the team struggling. Rutherford, batting at number four, turned the game around with an incredible display of power hitting.

Sherfane Rutherford’s Explosive Innings

Rutherford announced his arrival in style by smashing five sixes in an over bowled by Odean Smith. He raced to his half-century in just 24 balls. Continuing his aggressive approach, he hammered Adil Rashid for two sixes and a four in the next over.

The left-hander reached his historic century in 40 balls with a boundary off Farhan Khan. His unbeaten knock of 103 runs included seven fours and ten towering sixes. Rutherford’s blistering innings helped the Warriors post a competitive total of 142 runs in their 10 overs.

However, despite Rutherford’s heroic effort, UP Nawabs chased down the target comfortably. They secured a nine-wicket win with five balls to spare, overshadowing what was a record-breaking performance from the 26-year-old cricketer.

Sherfane Rutherford’s historic century will remain a landmark moment in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, showcasing his exceptional talent and ability to perform under pressure.
