Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka has reacted to a viral meme involving KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. The meme gained popularity after LSG splurged ₹27 crore to acquire Pant during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Saudi Arabia, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.

After the auction, a meme surfaced showing KL Rahul, the former LSG captain, seemingly advising Pant about Goenka. The meme read: “Dekh Bhai, company achi hai, pay acha hai, par boss bahot toxic hai” (Look, brother, the company is good, the pay is great, but the boss is very toxic).

The meme referenced the alleged tension between Rahul and Goenka. Rahul, who parted ways with LSG after three seasons, reportedly had a strained relationship with the owner, especially after a public confrontation during IPL 2024.

When asked about the meme, Goenka said he hadn’t seen it but admitted that he can be both tough and supportive as a leader. “Maine meme nahi dekha hai, but itna keh sakta hoon ki boss loving bhi hai, caring bhi aur tough bhi (I haven’t seen the meme, but I can confirm the boss is loving, caring, and tough too),” Goenka said during an interview with Times Now.

Rishabh Pant to Lead LSG?

Rishabh Pant’s arrival at LSG has sparked speculation about him taking over as captain. Goenka explained that the decision to sign Pant was not about breaking records but finding a leader who embodies a winning spirit.

“It is about someone who brings dynamism and a never-say-die attitude,” Goenka told Cricbuzz. “The very fact that he recovered from such a difficult phase and returned to top form shows his resilience. That’s the kind of attitude we want in our team.”

While Pant is the favorite for captaincy, LSG also retained Nicholas Pooran for ₹21 crore, making him another potential candidate for leadership. However, Goenka remained tight-lipped about the final decision.
