Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal recently made headlines with his remarks on KL Rahul, the franchise’s marquee signing at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Jindal expressed his delight at welcoming Rahul, subtly contrasting his approach to the one taken by Rahul’s previous franchise, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Rahul’s exit from LSG was marked by controversy and tension. During IPL 2024, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka publicly criticized Rahul on-field after a poor performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Though there were attempts to mend their relationship, including a dinner meeting, the cracks were evident. When LSG decided not to retain Rahul ahead of the auction, it became clear that both parties had opted for a fresh start.
Goenka didn’t hold back, often taking veiled shots at Rahul with statements like, “We need players who think about the team and not personal milestones.” However, Parth Jindal’s comments after securing Rahul in the auction seemed to serve as a counterpoint.
Parth Jindal’s Comments on KL Rahul
Speaking to RevSportz, Jindal praised Rahul’s qualities and shared his confidence in the batter’s potential to thrive with Delhi Capitals:
“I believe that KL is a quality player, and getting him at that price opened up the budget for us to strengthen other areas. I know KL personally for a long time and he is a good friend of mine. He thrives with love and respect, and I am going to give him the love and respect he deserves. I hope he thrives in our atmosphere and does it for Delhi, wins an IPL.”
Rahul’s Journey to Delhi Capitals
KL Rahul, who has amassed 4683 IPL runs, was one of the most sought-after players in the IPL 2025 auction. Although many expected him to return to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DC outbid RCB, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to secure Rahul for ₹14 crore.
Rahul was the fifth most expensive Indian player in the auction, following Rishabh Pant (₹27 crore), Shreyas Iyer (₹26.75 crore), Venkatesh Iyer (₹23 crore), and Arshdeep Singh (₹18 crore).
Delhi Capitals will look to win their maiden IPL title, and Jindal believes Rahul’s skills and experience can make the difference. As DC look to the future, it is clear they are banking on a positive and supportive environment to bring out the best in their star player.
