Indian fast-bowler Siddharth Kaul has decided to retire from Indian cricket. Kaul, known for his disciplined bowling, played six international matches for India and took four wickets in T20Is. He shared the emotional news through an Instagram post on Thursday, reflecting on his journey.
“When I was a child playing cricket in the fields in Punjab, I had one dream. A dream to represent my country. In 2018, by God’s grace, I received my India Cap Number 75 in the T20i team and Cap Number 221 in the ODI team. The time has now come to call time on my career in India and announce my retirement,” Kaul wrote.
Kaul had an impressive domestic career. He picked up 297 wickets in 88 first-class matches, with an average of 26.77, including 17 five-wicket hauls. In List A cricket, he claimed 199 wickets in 111 games, while in T20s, he bagged 182 wickets in 145 matches. He was India’s leading wicket-taker in the 2008 U19 World Cup, helping the team win the trophy under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
IPL Journey and Recent Performances
In the Indian Premier League, Kaul played for Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, taking 58 wickets in 55 matches. His best stint was with Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2017 to 2021, where he became a reliable bowler with his slower deliveries and yorkers.
Kaul’s domestic journey included being part of Punjab’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning team last season. He also had a brief County Championship stint with Northamptonshire earlier this year. His final cricket appearance came in the Punjab-Haryana Ranji Trophy match in Rohtak this month.
Expressing gratitude, Kaul thanked his parents, family, teammates, fans, and the BCCI for supporting him through his career highs and lows.
“Words cannot express my gratitude for the love and support I have received through all the highs and lows of my career,” he wrote.
Hailing from a sports-oriented family, Kaul’s father, Tej, was a first-class cricketer and physiotherapist for the Indian team. Kaul now looks forward to the next chapter of his life, ending his cricketing career with fond memories and achievements.
