The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to stop its players from playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during the English domestic season. However, the board has given full clearance for its players to participate in the next three editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As per a report by The Telegraph on November 28, English cricketers will not be allowed to take part in the PSL or other franchise leagues if they clash with tournaments like the Vitality Blast or The Hundred. This decision also applies to players who no longer play First-Class cricket, ensuring they remain available for domestic white-ball matches in England.

Protecting English Cricket

Explaining the new policy, ECB chief executive Richard Gould stated that the decision was made to safeguard the quality of cricket in England and Wales.

“We need to protect the integrity of our sport and the strength of our competitions,” Gould said.

The board has also taken steps to avoid “double-dipping,” which means players cannot join another league after being eliminated from one. Additionally, the ECB has banned participation in leagues that are under suspicion of corruption.

The PSL 2025 is likely to take place from mid-March to mid-April, overlapping with the IPL, which is expected to begin on March 14. This clash means top English players like Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone will feature in the IPL, having been picked in the recent mega auction in Jeddah.
