India’s open nets session at the Adelaide Oval ahead of the second Test against Australia took an unpleasant turn as reports surfaced about inappropriate fan behavior. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant were heckled during practice, with some fans allegedly body-shaming players and making insensitive remarks.

According to sources, over 3000 fans attended the Indian team’s training session, creating chaos. In contrast, the Australian team’s session drew only around 70 people. A senior BCCI official described the situation as “completely unexpected,” stating that the behavior of the fans left the players disturbed.

Fans Heckled and Distracted Players

Fans urged players to hit sixes and criticized them for missing deliveries during the session. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, two of the team’s most popular players, were also at risk of being mobbed. Loud chatter from spectators disrupted their concentration, with some even live-streaming the practice on social media.

“One supporter kept asking a player to greet him in Gujarati, while another cricketer faced body-shaming remarks,” a source revealed.

This incident led the BCCI to request Cricket Australia to conduct future practice sessions behind closed doors to avoid distractions. A fan event planned in Sydney ahead of the fifth Test was also canceled due to concerns over player safety and comfort.

KL Rahul, India’s vice-captain, admitted that practicing in front of a crowd felt “a little different” and could affect the team’s focus.

The second Test between India and Australia is scheduled to begin on Friday at the Adelaide Oval, with fans now banned from attending India’s practice sessions for the remainder of the tour.
