India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel shared his thoughts on Mohammed Siraj’s heated send-off to Travis Head during Day 2 of the second Test in Adelaide. Speaking at the press conference after stumps, Morkel maintained a balanced stance on the issue, acknowledging Siraj’s passion while downplaying any serious conflict between the two players.

Morkel described Siraj as a bowler who gives his all on the field but emphasized that the incident wouldn’t affect their camaraderie off the field.

“We all know Siraj puts everything on the line. He’s the kind of bowler who will run in all day. There are moments in a game, but I’m sure off the field, they will be the best of mates,” he remarked.

The controversy unfolded when Siraj dismissed Head, who had just scored a brilliant century. Siraj gave him an aggressive send-off, prompting a verbal exchange between the two. Siraj’s gesture and words provoked a reaction from Head, who also spoke about the incident after the day’s play.

“I said well bowled, but he thought otherwise,” Head revealed. “Slightly disappointed with what happened, but it is what it is. If that’s how they want to represent themselves, so be it.”

Morkel Reviews India’s Bowling Performance

Morkel also reflected on India’s overall bowling display in the Adelaide Test. He admitted that their performance on Day 1 was not up to the mark but saw some improvement on Day 2.

“Yesterday, the lines and lengths could have been better. There was some extra swing too,” Morkel explained. “I thought they bowled well this morning before Travis Head’s innings put them under pressure. That’s just the way he plays.”

Australia, riding on Head’s stunning century, posted 337 runs in response to India’s modest total of 180, taking a commanding 157-run first-innings lead. By the end of Day 2, India struggled at 128/5, with Rishabh Pant (28) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (15) still at the crease.
