Australia’s all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has taken over as the new captain of the Melbourne Stars for the 14th season of the Big Bash League (BBL). He replaces Glenn Maxwell, who stepped down after BBL 13. The Stars had a disappointing finish last season, ending in the sixth spot and missing the playoffs.
Stoinis has been an important player for the Melbourne Stars since joining the team in the third season of the BBL. Last season, he had a brief experience as captain when Maxwell was injured. This year, the team hopes his leadership can turn their fortunes around. Interestingly, Stoinis and Maxwell will also play together for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025.
Marcus Stoinis Excited About Captaincy
Marcus Stoinis expressed his happiness about becoming the full-time captain of the Melbourne Stars.
“It’s a great honour,” he said. “I loved the chance to lead the team last year, and I’m excited to do it full-time. The Stars have been a big part of my life for 10 years, and I believe we can achieve the success this team deserves.”
The Melbourne Stars management also praised Stoinis for his consistent contributions to the team. They highlighted that he is set to play his 100th game for the franchise this season. Stoinis has been a vital part of the team, both as a batter and an all-rounder.
The Melbourne Stars will kick off their BBL 14 campaign with a match against the defending champions, Perth Scorchers, on December 15. The team hopes to start strong under their new captain and improve on their previous performances.
