Harbhajan Singh, former Indian cricketer, congratulated R Ashwin on his successful cricket career. He called Ashwin the “flag bearer of Indian spin” and praised him for his dedication to the game. This message came after Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday.

Ashwin shared the news during a press conference after the third Test between India and Australia, which ended in a draw due to rain.

Harbhajan’s Tribute to Ashwin

Taking to social media platform X, Harbhajan wrote:

“Congratulations on a phenomenal cricket career. Your ambition as a Test cricketer was admirable. Well done for being the flag bearer of Indian spin for more than a decade. Be very proud of your achievements and hopefully see you more often now.”

Harbhajan and Ashwin shared the field briefly during their careers. Ashwin made his ODI and T20I debut in 2010 and played his first Test in 2011 when Harbhajan was still a key part of the Indian team. The duo appeared together in five Tests, two ODIs, and five T20Is before Ashwin took over as India’s leading off-spinner.

Comparing Two Legends of Spin

Both Harbhajan and Ashwin are among India’s finest spinners. Harbhajan retired with 707 international wickets, including 417 in Tests, 265 in ODIs, and 25 in T20Is. Ashwin, on the other hand, finished with 765 wickets across formats—537 in Tests, 156 in ODIs, and 72 in T20Is.

Ashwin’s impact on Indian cricket, especially in Test matches, has been immense. He became a key bowler in both home and overseas conditions, consistently delivering match-winning performances.

As Ashwin steps away from the international stage, his legacy as one of India’s greatest spinners will continue to inspire future generations.
