Australia has finally made a change to their squad for the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India in Melbourne. Nathan McSweeney, the opener, has been dropped after struggling in the series. Young Sam Konstas is set to take his place and may make his Test debut.
Nathan McSweeney’s Struggles Continue
Nathan McSweeney has found it tough in his Test career so far. In three matches, he has managed to score just 72 runs at an average of 14.40. Five out of his six innings have ended with him scoring under ten runs.
The Australian team is likely to try Sam Konstas at the top order, alongside the experienced Usman Khawaja, for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Reports suggest that McSweeney’s poor form against India’s pace attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, has made him the first choice to be left out.
Sam Konstas’s Bright Start in BBL
Sam Konstas has been added to Australia’s squad and is ready to grab this opportunity. The youngster recently made headlines in the Big Bash League (BBL), becoming the youngest player to score a fifty on debut for Sydney Thunder. He also smashed a brilliant century for the Prime Minister’s XI against India in a warm-up game.
Speaking about the possibility of his debut, Konstas shared his excitement:
“It motivates me a bit more. Obviously, it would be a dream come true if I got that opportunity. We’ll see what happens.”
Australia squad: Pat Cummins (c), Travis Head (vc), Steve Smith (vc), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Jhye Richardson, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster
