Australia’s young batting talent, Sam Konstas, had a disappointing outing in his final Big Bash League (BBL) match before his much-awaited Test debut in Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Playing against the Sydney Sixers, Konstas was dismissed for a third-ball duck, bowled by Akeal Hosein while attempting a cut shot. This performance came just days after he was called up for Australia’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India.
The 19-year-old, who recently made headlines with his explosive BBL debut, where he smashed the fastest half-century for Sydney Thunder, will now shift his focus to the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Konstas has been included in the squad as a replacement for Nathan McSweeney after a stellar domestic season. Konstas has already shown glimpses of his potential in domestic cricket.
In the Sheffield Shield, he achieved a historic feat by becoming the youngest player since Ricky Ponting to score twin centuries in a match. Earlier this month, he grabbed attention with an aggressive 107 against an Indian team and followed it with a calm 88 against Western Australia.
The stage is now set for the young batter to showcase his talent on one of cricket’s biggest platforms. Fans and cricket experts alike will be eager to see how Konstas handles the pressure of international cricket.
