Saim Ayub continued his fantastic start in one-day internationals, scoring his third ODI century on December 22 (Sunday) at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The 22-year-old reached this milestone in just his ninth match, making it two centuries in three games during the ongoing series against South Africa.
Earlier, he had played a match-winning knock of 109 in Paarl during the first ODI of the series. By scoring another hundred, Ayub achieved a rare milestone. He became only the fifth player in history to score multiple hundreds in a three-match ODI series held in South Africa.
Among overseas players, only Fakhar Zaman had accomplished this feat before, back in 2021.

- Hashim Amla vs Zimbabwe (2010)
- Quinton de Kock vs India (2013)
- Fakhar Zaman vs South Africa (2021)
- Saim Ayub vs South Africa (2024)*
Ayub’s innings was filled with boundaries as he hit 13 fours and 2 sixes, maintaining a staggering strike rate of 107.4. He reached his century in the 34th over, but unfortunately, he couldn’t turn it into a big knock. He was dismissed for 101, giving debutant Corbin Bosch his first international wicket.
Ayub was caught behind while attempting a pull shot, which ballooned up after hitting the glove. Heinrich Klaasen took an easy catch to end the young batter’s brilliant innings.
Saim Ayub’s consistency has placed him among cricket’s rising stars, and fans will be eager to see more such performances from the talented left-hander.
