Aaron Finch added some festive cheer before the 10th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 season at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. The former Australian captain dressed as Santa Claus and distributed gifts to fans, creating a lively atmosphere on Christmas Eve.
Finch, who led Australia to a T20 World Cup win and is now a commentator, embraced the holiday spirit during the Melbourne Renegades vs. Perth Scorchers game. His Santa act brought smiles to the crowd before the thrilling contest began.
Melboune Renegades Edge Scorchers in a Close Finish
On the cricket field, the Melbourne Renegades capitalized on their home advantage, securing a hard-fought win in the second-last over. Batting first, Perth Scorchers managed 143-8 in their 20 overs. Cooper Connolly led their innings with a solid knock of 66 from 50 balls, supported by Matthews Spoors, who scored 29 in the middle order.
The Renegades’ bowlers delivered a balanced performance, with Tom Rogers shining brightest. Rogers picked up three wickets for just 22 runs in his four overs. Other bowlers, including Fergus O’Neill, Kane Richardson, Will Sutherland, and Adam Zampa, each claimed one wicket, restricting the Scorchers from posting a bigger total.
In reply, the Renegades chased down the target in 19 overs despite losing eight wickets. Tim Seifert, Jacob Bethell, and Laurie Evans contributed with handy knocks, ensuring their team crossed the finish line just before the two-day BBL break.
