The Sydney Sixers pulled off a stunning run chase to defeat the Melbourne Stars by eight wickets in Match 11 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Chasing a daunting target of 195, the Sixers reached 198/2 in just 18.1 overs, setting a new record for the highest successful chase in Big Bash history at the iconic SCG.
Leading the charge was James Vince, who smashed his maiden Big Bash century with a magnificent 101 not out off 58 balls. Vince’s innings was a masterclass in timing and composure, surpassing his previous best of 98*. He was well-supported by Josh Philippe, who gave the Sixers a blazing start with a quickfire 42 off 23 balls, and Jordan Silk, who remained unbeaten on 34 off 19 to finish the job in style.
Earlier, the Sixers opted to bowl first after winning the toss. The Stars posted a competitive 194/9 in their 20 overs, thanks to an explosive knock from Ben Duckett (68 off 29) and a quick cameo by Glenn Maxwell (32 off 17). Despite their efforts, the Stars’ bowlers failed to defend the total against a red-hot Sixers batting lineup.
With this performance, the Sydney Sixers secured the top spot on the points table, while the Melbourne Stars remain at the bottom.
