Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah achieved a remarkable milestone in his cricket career during the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
On Day 4, Bumrah dismissed Travis Head to claim his 200th wicket in Test cricket. With this feat, he became the first bowler in Test history to take 200 wickets while maintaining an average of under 20.
Bumrah’s average of 19.5 places him ahead of legendary bowlers like Malcolm Marshall (20.9), Joel Garner (21.0), and Curtly Ambrose (21.0). This achievement cements his place as one of the finest pace bowlers in the world.
Multiple Milestones for Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah didn’t stop at 200. He quickly added two more wickets to his tally, dismissing Mitchell Marsh and opener Sam Konstas. This took his total to 28 wickets in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, making him the leading wicket-taker in the series.
The pacer also joined Ravindra Jadeja as the second-fastest Indian to reach 200 Test wickets, achieving the milestone in just 44 matches.
Among Indians, only Ravichandran Ashwin reached this landmark faster, doing so in 37 Tests. Globally, Bumrah ranks behind Pakistan’s Yasir Shah (33 Tests) and Australia’s Clarrie Grimmett (36 Tests) on the all-time fastest list.
