The opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 saw Fortune Barishal clinch a thrilling four-wicket win over Durbar Rajshahi at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The match was packed with power-hitting, strong partnerships, and intense moments, making it a perfect start to the tournament.
Yasir Ali’s Heroics Lift Durbar Rajshahi
Durbar Rajshahi batted first and posted a solid 197/3 in their 20 overs. Yasir Ali was the star of their innings, playing an explosive knock of 94 not out off just 47 balls, laced with seven fours and eight sixes.
After losing Mohammad Haris (13 off 12) and Jishan Alam (0 off 2) early to Kyle Mayers, captain Anamul Haque (65 off 51) joined forces with Yasir Ali to stitch a 140-run partnership. Anamul’s knock featured four fours and five sixes before falling to Faheem Ashraf. Yasir carried the momentum in the death overs, taking Rajshahi to a competitive total.
Mahmudullah and Faheem Ashraf Steal the Show
In response, Fortune Barishal had a shaky start as they lost Najmul Hossain Shanto on the first ball of the innings. Tamim Iqbal (7 off 5) and Kyle Mayers (6 off 5) couldn’t contribute much, leaving Barishal struggling at 30/3.
Towhid Hridoy (32 off 23) and Mushfiqur Rahim (13 off 11) steadied the ship briefly but failed to convert their starts. At 61/5, Barishal needed a special effort, and they found it in Mahmudullah and Faheem Ashraf.
Mahmudullah played a captain’s knock, smashing 56 not out off just 26 balls, including five fours and four sixes. He found an able partner in Faheem Ashraf, who blasted 54 not out off just 21 balls, with seven sixes and one four. Together, they chased down the target in just 18.1 overs. Shaheen Afridi also made a surprise contribution with the bat, scoring 27 off 17 balls with three sixes.
