In the 2nd match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25: Rangpur Rangers (RGR) faced Dhaka Capitals (DHCP), Mustafizur Rahman had a tough time with the ball.

The left-arm pacer, who went unsold in the IPL mega auction after being released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), conceded 48 runs in his four overs while picking just one wicket.

Rangpur Riders batsmen, especially Nurul Hasan and Khushdil Shah, hammered him for boundaries, making it a challenging outing for the Bangladesh superstar.

Rangpur Rangers’ Batting Power

Batting first, Rangpur Rangers posted a competitive total of 191/6 in 20 overs. Despite an early setback with two quick wickets, Saif Hassan and Iftikhar Ahmed steadied the innings with scores of 40 and 49, respectively.

However, it was Khushdil Shah’s explosive knock of 46 runs off just 23 balls and Nurul Hasan’s fiery 25 off 11 that gave Rangpur the momentum in the final overs. The duo smashed boundaries at will, with a combined strike rate exceeding 200. Mustafizur managed to dismiss Steven Taylor early, but his expensive spell in the death overs overshadowed that effort.

Dhaka Capitals Fall Short

Chasing 192, Dhaka Capitals never seemed in control of the game. Tanzid Hasan (30 off 21) and Litton Das (31 off 27) gave them a decent start, but the middle order collapsed under pressure. Skipper Thisara Perera’s quick-fire 17 off 8 balls and Mukidul Islam’s 18 off 11 provided some resistance, but it was too little, too late.

Rangpur’s Mahedi Hasan shone with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for just 27 runs. Khushdil Shah also contributed with two crucial wickets, keeping the pressure on the Capitals’ batsmen. Dhaka Capitals managed only 151/9 in their 20 overs, falling 40 runs short of the target.

Rangpur Rangers dominated the match with both bat and ball. Mustafizur Rahman, once a star bowler, struggled to contain runs, raising questions about his current form. On the other hand, Rangpur’s balanced performance secured them a convincing 40-run victory.
